CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Writing Center 2.0:
Navigating WC Services Within and Beyond What Is to What Can Be
In “Faces, Factories, and Warhols: A r(Evoluntionary) Future for Writing Centers,” Ben Rafoth’s 2015 keynote address to the International Writing Centers Association, he encouraged the audience to interrogate our core beliefs about the writing center’s parameters, purview, and practice. In so doing, we become BOTH liberated AND obligated to consider not only what has been but also what can be.
During the last two years, centers like our own have sought to do just that: to move beyond center-based consulting, to explore new iterations of our services, and to seek novel partnerships as well as to resist easy polemics like writer versus product and direct versus indirect. This year, we seek conference proposals that explore the possibilities and the problems of such a rhetorical and literal expansion of the writing center’s mission, space, pedagogy, etc., whether or not the momentum for change has been self-driven or externally mandated.
Concurrent sessions will be 50 minutes each with a 10-minute break for movement to the next, allocated as follows:
-
Two separate 20-minute presentations followed by 10 minutes for questions.
-
One workshop devoted to in-depth examination of the conference theme or professional learning for administrators and/or consultants.
Program Format
The 2017 MiWCA Ideas Exchange will be organized in 50-minute sessions and welcome
